WeServe Fellows program boosts nonprofits, develops young leaders

WeServe Fellows present strategic recommendations to nonprofit leaders during the final session of their summer internship with the V2A Foundation.

The V2A Foundation has completed the sixth edition of its WeServe Fellows program, a pro bono initiative that connects university students with nonprofit organizations in Puerto Rico to support growth, sustainability and social impact.

This summer, 15 fellows worked with five nonprofit organizations on strategic planning and operational improvement projects. The participating groups were the EcoExploratorio – Puerto Rico Science Museum, Fundación Banco Popular, Fundación Pediátrica de Diabetes, Casa de Niños Manuel Fernández Juncos and Lead Collaborative.

With guidance from V2A consultants, the fellows received mentorship in strategy, operations and change management.

“Through this program we’re generating real impact in organizations that lead essential causes for Puerto Rico,” said Graciela Salcedo, president of the V2A Foundation and managing director at the firm.

EcoExploratorio, one of the participating organizations, used the collaboration to develop a long-term strategic plan.

“We are deeply grateful to have been selected,” said Ada Monzón, board chair of EcoExploratorio. “Thanks to the fellows, the EcoExploratorio now has a strategic plan to guide our future growth.”

In addition to supporting nonprofits, the program also functions as a leadership development platform. Two fellows received scholarships for their performance, and participant Eugenia Landívar described the experience as “transformative,” citing both professional and personal growth.

The WeServe Fellows program is aligned with the V2A Foundation’s four focus areas: education, health, social well-being and the environment.
