WorldNet launches ‘Cloud Direct’ services

Reliance on cloud computing services has become a growing trend among companies looking to cut down their costs by paying for what they consume — technologically speaking — while streamlining operations. In Puerto Rico, cloud computing related activity is already estimated at $300 million, and is expected to continue growing over the next decade.

To capitalize on that expected surge in reliance on cloud computing, telecommunications provider WorldNet unveiled Thursday its new “Cloud Direct” service through which it offers to deliver computing systems to the user directly through the Internet via a secure and a direct connection to data, while promising to improve efficiency and lower costs.

WorldNet “Cloud Direct” is backed by the company’s capabilities to integrate technology with different telecom systems, giving businesses the ability to establish new strategies for revenue growth, said WorldNet CEO David Bogaty.

“WorldNet Cloud Direct will improve the level of technology that cloud computing already offers,” said Bogaty, speaking to a group of high-ranking island executives.

Statistics offered by Economist José Joaquín Villamil, president of the Estudios Técnicos analyst firm, shows that during the five-year period between 2015 and 2020, the development of cloud-based services will fuel the creation of 4,500 jobs and generate revenue of about $1 billion by the end of the decade.

“Cloud Direct will help Puerto Rico become the gateway for services, training and all IT business in the Caribbean and Central America,” Villamil said, referring to the role WorldNet’s service will play in that growth.
