Xpand, a growth-stage acceleration program administered by parallel18 under the Puerto Rico Science, Technology and Research Trust, has opened applications for its sixth cohort of companies seeking to expand internationally from Puerto Rico.

The free program, subsidized by Banco Popular, provides technical assistance, individualized mentorship and educational resources to help businesses enter new markets and scale sustainably.

“At the Trust, our entrepreneurship pillar continues to support local businesses at all stages of their growth,” said Science Trust CEO Lucy Crespo. “Xpand not only empowers companies seeking to expand into new markets but also provides the necessary resources to maintain a sustainable business and face the challenges of expansion.”

The initiative will select up to 20 companies and operates year-round to strengthen business networks and corporate partnerships. Participants receive guidance through masterclasses on business strategy, operations, finance, fundraising and export readiness.

“The Xpand program represents a unique opportunity for entrepreneurs who are ready to compete successfully in international markets,” said Héctor Jirau, executive director of parallel18. “Since its founding in 2022, the program has evolved and supported more than 60 companies, impacting more than 20 industries around the island.”

The first 10 selected companies will begin the program in February, with a second group starting in August. Eligible applicants must have completed a previous accelerator program or report more than $250,000 in sales, as well as maintain an active export strategy and a dedicated operational team. Applications for the first group will remain open through Jan. 31.
