The U.S. Office of Personnel Management awarded a “Most Improved” category to Triple-S Salud as a result of its most recent report regarding the quality of health care offered.

“This designation makes us proud and reflects the achievements we have gained in quality of care. A ‘Most Improved’ designation is of great importance to any health care insurance company, allowing it greater visibility when federal employees choose their health coverage,” said Benjamin Santiago, executive director of clinical quality for Triple-S Salud.

Advances in quality are of great importance, as they lead to better health outcomes for members through evidence-based care, as well as a more efficient use of resources. Increases in quality measures reflect the results of 2014 HEDIS (Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set), a tool used by more than 90 percent of health plans in the U.S. and Puerto Rico to measure their performance in areas of care and health care service, Santiago said.

Preventive measures obtained the greatest advances, particularly those related to screening tests for diabetes, cholesterol management, and prenatal and postpartum care, he added.

In the area of service measures, service to members, speed and access to necessary care stand out.
