Food enthusiasts from Puerto Rico and the Caribbean will be able to take a bite out of the island’s best dishes this weekend, during the 6th edition of the Saborea Puerto Rico culinary fest, which will feature a constellation of local and international chefs.

From April 4-7, the Escambrón park in San Juan will host close to 70 culinary personalities, who will offer demonstrations at the event’s main kitchen, as well as in dozens of stations spread throughout the grounds. Last year, Saborea Puerto Rico generated $1.7 million for the local economy, including 2,700 hotel room nights, organizers said Thursday.

“We’re celebrating because this is a special weekend for our island, when we celebrate one of the most important attributes Puerto Rico has as a destination, which are our culinary riches, that food that amazes everyone who visits us,” said Clarisa Jiménez , president of the Puerto Rico Hotel and Tourism Association, the event’s managers.

“Since its inception, Saborea Puerto Rico has become synonymous with world-class cuisine, year after year we reaffirm that our island is undoubtedly the culinary capital of the Caribbean,” she said, adding that along with some of the best cooking on the island, the event’s Tasting Pavilion will also feature liquor, wine, beer and desserts.

Among the list of invited chefs are Kevin Sbraga, winner of the 7th edition of “Top Chef DC,” Jennifer Behn, winner of the second edition of FOX Network’s “MasterChef” competition and Julio Lazzarini a prominent Puerto Rican chef, who came in finalist on the Food Network’s “Chopped” competition.
