Fusionworks opens app division, creates gov’t solution

Aware that Puerto Rico’s economic growth is tied to business competitiveness and that technology is essential in this process, local consulting firm Fusionwork recently launched a new line of business focused on the development of applications.
“Through the development of custom applications we will be addressing particular situations or challenges within any organization. With this new line of business, we will not only meet the needs of our customers, but also contribute to meet their very specific business objectives,” said Fusionworks Director Leslie Luciano.
For the past 11 years, Fusionworks has been dedicated to improving processes through business intelligence consulting. To achieve this, the company develops applications that serve as a complement to existing implementations in customer applications.
“We realized that there was a need for particular development of applications for local businesses. By identifying that there is room for creating custom applications, we decided to formalize the business line and invest in a group of experts in the area of development,” said Luciano.
As part of the new line of business, Fusionworks develops business, commercial, transactional and mobile applications that can be worked using existing technologies such as Oracle and Microsoft. Also, it will use open source technologies, or open source, with which you can develop faster and cheaper solutions.
“We will use emerging technologies to achieve the realization of the economic projects in less time. In this way serve a market devoid of solutions that were previously accessible only to large companies,” said Luciano.
Since its founding in 2002, Fusionworks has focused on adding value to its customers by improving their operational processes and information they use to make decisions through the use of technology. The company specializes in process improvement and information supported by the use of technology, has cultivated a diverse customer base with diverse needs, including local and multinational companies.
Fusionworks app picked to start in gov’t pilot
Several weeks ago, Fusionworks took part in the government-sponsored Puerto Rico Tech Summit, developing and presenting its “Student Hack” application that will soon be implemented in the island’s public school system.
The application seeks to pinpoint absences and prevent students from becoming dropouts, one of the Education Department’s major challenges, and therefore, the government’s.
Student Hack was developed to monitor student attendance in schools by providing information on the registration of student absences. The application will send an alert via text and/or email to the student’s parent or guardian after the teacher identifies them as being absent, so they can take preventive measures and reduce the chances that the student leaves school.
“The Hacker Boot Camp, the Puerto Rico Tech Summit, was the space we chose to unveil the new business line Fusionworks” said Gavin Nunns, practice manager for Fusionworks’ app development division.
“Although in the past we designed specialized applications for some of our clients, it’s not until now that we decided to formalize this service as a business line,” he said.
Fusionworks has developed specialized applications for companies such as First Medical, Pure Med, BDO and Eli Lilly, among others.
