Interphex Puerto Rico ’12 to deliver education, opportunities
Interphex Puerto Rico 2012 will bring together more than 200 exhibitors and 5,400 industry professionals.
International events organizer Reed Exhibitions will be producing the 6th edition of its Interphex Puerto Rico convention on Oct. 4-5, when it expects to gather the island’s most important life sciences companies and suppliers at the Puerto Rico Convention Center.
This year’s event offers participants four shows under one roof: INTERPHEX Puerto Rico, Buildings & Facilities Puerto Rico, Medical Device Puerto Rico and Latin American Supply Chain.
Each of these shows will deliver a dedicated conference track coupled with the latest technology and innovations on the show floor to help participants improve efficiency and productivity, organizers said.
“For the knowledge economy, Interphex Puerto Rico 2012 represents the basis and source of innovation, education and professional development of industries such as pharmaceutical, bio-pharmaceutical, medical equipment and supply chain from the conceptualization stage, through the time of distribution in the market,” said Iván Lugo, president of INDUNIV and Interphex spokesman on the island.
Interphex Puerto Rico 2012 will bring together more than 200 exhibitors and 5,400 industry professionals and is sponsored by the most prestigious international associations and companies on the island, namely INDUNIV, the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company, the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), the Puerto Rico Manufacturers Association (PRMA), Novartis, CooperVision, Pfizer, Roche Diagnostics, Lilly del Caribe, Stryker, Medtronic, Jacobs, PRTEC & MediSearch, among others, Lugo said during a recent press conference.
The six editions held since 2006 will generate a combined $4.8 million economic benefit for Puerto Rico, organizers said.
Interphex Puerto Rico 2012 will present internationally renowned keynote speakers, including professionals, educators and known representatives in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical equipment fields, as well as construction and supply chain sectors worldwide.
The event will offer more than 40 accredited conferences and educational sessions aimed at guiding the industry and professionals to understand the critical issues and challenges in their respective disciplines.
“Its mission is to continue being a facilitator of the industry, help companies prosper and in turn transform the island into a more competitive destination and stimulate the economy,” Lugo added.
Puerto Rico is a key contributor to Interphex as well, as it generates the highest concentration of jobs in the areas of advanced sciences in the United States, with more than 9,000 college degrees awarded each year.
“We’re competing with many jurisdictions worldwide and the best offer that we can present to the world is our human capital,” said Ramón Caldas, chairman of the Latin American Supply Chain Expo educational track. “The better prepared the Puerto Rican professional is, whether in the various disciplines that will be presented at the event, as well as in the supply chain field, the more attractive we’ll will be to foreign investors.”

Event advisory board announced
Earlier this month, Interphex Puerto Rico organizers announced the event’s 2012 Conference Advisory Board, which has been instrumental in developing the conference.
