Automaker Nissan announced Monday the launch of its “Roadside Assistance” smartphone application, which gives support to Nissan owners in Puerto Rico during unexpected situations.

The app is available for free on both the iPhone App Store, as in the Android Market. It should also be noted that this application is the first to adapt this service to the community of drivers with some kind of hearing impairment.

“At Nissan, as part of our commitment to enrich the lives of our customers in all aspects, we developed ‘Roadside Assistance Nissan’ an innovative application that seeks to reassure, support and security in unexpected situations,” said Juan Santana-Chea, commercial director for the brand.

“We want our customers to be confident that they are not alone, that we are always at the touch of a button to assist and provide the highest level of service to meet their expectations,” he added.

From Nissan’s Roadside Assistance app, vehicle owners subscribed to the service can request roadside assistance from their smartphones. Upon request, the app identifies the customer’s location via GPS, which is connected with support staff will provide assistance.

The app also allows the client to indicate if it’s an emergency. If so, it immediately refers it to the 911 system and gives the option for the client to communicate with an operator. Those with a hearing impairment may activate alternative text messaging with support staff and system operators.

The Nissan’s Roadside Assistance service is offered for free by Nissan for a period of two years, unlimited miles, at the moment of purchasing one of their vehicles. The helpdesk is also available for those brand users who wish to activate the service once the coverage period of the first two years has been completed, given at the time of purchase. The app was developed together with local company Connect Road Assist.
