The 17th annual Liberty Golf Invitational Tournament raised $165,000 that was awarded to eight community organizations that make significant contributions to Puerto Rico’s well-being. This donation represents the highest amount that Liberty has ever awarded through this event, the company announced Tuesday.

“We are very happy with the reception our tournament has received, particularly with the fact that we have surpassed last year’s total by $20,000,” said Liberty Puerto Rico President Naji Khoury, during the formal presentation of the donations Monday night during the Invitational’s celebration dinner, held at the Wyndham Río Mar Beach Resort & Spa in Río Grande.

“This shows our sponsors generosity and their desire to contribute to our island’s well-being, especially at a moment when it needs it the most,” he said.

This year’s eight winning institutions were: The San Juan Children’s Choir; The Hogar Infantil Santa Teresita del Niño Jesús in Arecibo; The Universidad del Turabo Scholarship Fund; The Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico; Niños de Nueva Esperanza in Toa Baja’s Sabana Seca sector; PR 4 PR; the Puerto Rico JazzFest Scholarship Fund; and Residencia Universitaria Puertorreal.

Each institution received $20,000 except the Universidad del Turabo Scholarship Fund, which received $25,000.

The Liberty Golf Invitational Tournament started in 1996 as part of the company’s commitment to the community it serves. That first edition raised about $19,000 for the Hogar San José in Luquillo. To date, the tournament has raised more than $1 million for a variety of community organizations throughout the island.
