Two private health care providers in Ponce and Juana Díaz recently announced major investments to upgrade their medical facilities serving Puerto Rico’s southern region.

The Hospital Metropolitano Dr. Pila, an affiliate of the Metro Pavía Health System, recently inaugurated new facilities and services resulting from a investment of $15 million in the past five years.

Renovations include new 2D and 3D Digital Mammography services with tomosynthesis, ultrasound screening, breast MRI and 3D and 4D sonography, an Invasive Cardiovascular Center with catheterization, nuclear medicine equipment, among others,

The facility has also expanded its nuclear medicine services and cardiovascular offerings, said Rafael Alvarado, executive director of the Hospital Metropolitano Dr. Pila.

Last year, the hospital facility inaugurated a new emergency room, that is completely separate from its pediatric emergency center.

Meanwhile, Allan Cintrón-Salichs, executive director of the Health Council of Puerto Rico Inc./Med Centro, recently unveiled a new $3.5 million satellite office offering primary health services.

“We have been in Juana Díaz for 15 years and growth is ongoing. The increase in the number of patients and our offerings were determining factors in the decision to build a new, modern building for the benefit of Juana Díaz and nearby towns,” said Cintrón-Salichs.

The new two-story, 6,500 square-foot clinic is located in the Singapur sector of Juana Diaz. The medical offices have been outfitted with high-tech equipment for screening tests as well as monitor of vital signs. The primary medical services offered in at the center include gynecology, obstetrics, family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and HIV, mental health, oral and nutrition clinics.

“The opening of the center ensures that the residents of Juana Diaz can access health services and coordinated care on a regular basis. The clinic is the answer to the social reality we live and is a way to provide solutions that are of benefit to society and improve the quality of life of many people,” he said
