NatuTreats opens first pet bakery shop in Guaynabo

NatuTreats was founded during the pandemic after creator Denise Lebrón-Vargas discovered a canine pastry course focused on natural ingredients.

NatuTreats has opened the metro area’s first bakery-style shop dedicated to pets, a 530-square-foot space in San Juan’s San Patricio sector supported by a $32,500 investment.

The Puerto Rican brand said the new store aligns with its goal of offering families fresh, natural and artisanally made products for their pets. The location opens with one full-time and one part-time employee and marks a significant step in the company’s expansion.

NatuTreats was founded during the pandemic after creator Denise Lebrón-Vargas took a canine pastry course focused on natural ingredients. She tested recipes on her own pets and neighbors’ animals and, after seeing the response, said she asked herself, “Why not share this experience with more families?”

She and her husband, Félix Barreto-González, developed the idea into a family-run project that she described as being “recognized for its love, purpose and artisanal approach.”

The company’s mission is to provide “safe, natural and healthy alternatives to pamper pets without compromising their well-being,” guided by values of health, quality, trust, honesty, innovation and craftsmanship.

NatuTreats said its small-batch, handmade products are baked daily using human-grade ingredients with no preservatives, additives or artificial flavors. The brand highlights benefits such as “better digestion, immune system support, dental strengthening, mental stimulation and a loving experience that strengthens their bond with their families.”

The menu includes cookies, cakes, donuts, cupcakes, ice creams, seasonal decorated treats, natural supplements and wellness items. The shop also sells toys, accessories, party items and a photo booth, and offers same-day cakes in limited quantities and ice pops made without harmful ingredients.

In four years, the company has expanded to 14 points of sale in Puerto Rico, participates in pop-ups and fairs and ships orders throughout Puerto Rico and the U.S. mainland. It recently joined the Hecho en Puerto Rico organization.
