The Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico and the Center of Information Assurance for Research and Education will be hosting the first “CyberSecurity 2013 Cloud and Social Networking Conference” April 19 to discuss what is considered one of the hottest IT issues worldwide.

“As a National Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education (CAE/IAE) designated by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security in June, 2009, [the Polytechnic] is proud to be the first and only CAE/IAE in Puerto Rico,” said Ernesto Vázquez, university president.

“At the same time, we are leaders in the area of cyber-education,” he said of the event that will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

CIARE provides a forum that can be used by faculty, students, and professionals from the public and private sectors. The center is a vehicle for: training, research, invention, innovation, education, public awareness, entrepreneurship, economic development, and dissemination of best practices.

Speakers from the local government and industries are invited to participate in this activity that will bring together some of the most talented security professionals in Puerto Rico to talk about some of the most important current security issues in IT. Faculty, students, and Information Assurance professionals can exchange their knowledge and experiences in the area of cybersecurity.

There will also be an interactive workshop in the afternoon introducing Cryptography and Steganography, where the participants will get hands-on experience by solving some basic exercises in these two areas.

The event is open to the public and free of charge. To register, please send an email with your name, position, company, and phone number to:  [email protected].
