Cooperativa Ganaderos de Res in Utuado has been selected to receive a $123,800 grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to develop a marketing plan, provide legal assistance and animal health and humane treatment training for its business.

The funding comes from the USDA’s Small Socially Disadvantaged Producer Grant program, which offers technical assistance to help producers develop new markets and grow their operations.

“These grants will help socially-disadvantaged business owners get the tools they need to succeed and expand markets across the nation,” said U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack

The Puerto Rican group was one of 13 grant awardees to benefit from this round of funding, along with groups from Alabama, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina and South Dakota.
