The first mission organized by the current administration is taking place this week in Panama, seeking to continue strengthening trade ties and advance the participation of local companies in the thriving Central American economy.

Among the activities on the agenda are meetings at the Ministry of the Presidency, Ministry of Commerce and Industry of Panama, the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Authority, and with the Second Vice President of the Panamanian Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture.

During the official mission, participants visited the Colón Free Trade Zone, the Panama Pacific Special Economic Area agency, the Manzanillo International Terminal, and the “Ciudad del Saber,” an international complex for education, research and innovation, organized to promote and facilitate synergy between universities, scientific research centers, enterprises of the new economy and international agencies, said Economic Development and Commerce Secretary Alberto Bacó, who headed the delegation of local government officials that included Puerto Rico Trade Executive Director Francisco Chévere and Deputy Chief of Staff Javeir Conzález.

“We’ll have the opportunity and satisfaction to chat with Puerto Rican company Caribbean Project Management, which has been managing projects in the Panamanian market for five years,” Bacó said. “This group is an example of the opportunities Puerto Rican companies have in foreign markets.”

The government is working on initiatives and strengthening Puerto Rico Trade’s scope to help local companies expand to other countries by providing resources so they can learn the ropes when it comes to international commerce and effective strategies to land more clients, Chévere said.
