Meet Puerto Rico, formerly known as the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau, is welcoming 86 meeting and convention organizers during the second edition of the Puerto Rico Showcase & Travel Expo taking place this week.

Participants with the potential to bring a range of corporate, association and other meetings to the island are participating in a specialized four-day itinerary to experience firsthand the destination’s sophisticated business setting, distinctive natural attractions and cultural offerings, the nonprofit said.

In a program that includes site inspections at a range of Puerto Rico’s meeting properties, participants will also attend several educational sessions, a tradeshow with Meet Puerto Rico’s member-suppliers, as well as enjoy popular group activities highlighting the Island’s culture, heritage and natural attractions. The comprehensive itinerary aims to provide professionals who regularly make decisions about where a group chooses to gather about the sophisticated offerings that make Puerto Rico a world-class meeting and convention destination.

“There’s no better selling tool than experiencing a product firsthand, especially when that product is Puerto Rico,” said Meet Puerto Rico President Milton Segarra. “This program offers key decision makers in the meetings industry distinctively Puerto Rico experiences, provides an understanding of the sophisticated level of our meeting product and business services, and demonstrates our understanding and ability to serve convention groups needs in helping reach program goals.”

A key highlight of the program is an educational seminar on the topic of utilizing social media to promote and add value to a meeting or convention program. Meet Puerto Rico will also be launching its own social media promotion during the event, where participating meeting planners are invited to take images of their experiences in Puerto Rico and share them through Twitter and Instagram.

An additional program highlight is a tradeshow with nearly 30 exhibitors representing Meet Puerto Rico’s membership of hotels, resorts, destination management companies, entertainment companies and airlines. During the tradeshow, planners will meet one-on-one with local business providers specialized in serving the meetings and conventions market.
