Sacred Heart University announced it has received a $40,000 contribution from AT&T to support 39 undergraduate scholarships.

Those students with satisfactory academic performance, financial need, and a demonstrated commitment to their careers will be able to participate. Each will get a $1,000 scholarship for the 2016-2017 academic year, the school announced.

“The economic challenges shouldn’t define or limit our youth, so it’s our duty to become change agents in the community where we coexist and serve as facilitators for these students to become what they have envisioned to be,” said Sacred Heart President Gilberto J. Marxuach-Torrós. “We appreciate AT&T’s commitment to offering our talented students the opportunity to complete their higher education.”

AT&T has a longstanding commitment to enriching the communities it serves by supporting programs that address quality-of-life issues, with an emphasis on improving education and advancing community development.

“At AT&T, our legacy is not to just support our communities though our philanthropic efforts; we want to make them stronger, said Ray Flores, AT&T Puerto Rico regional vice president. “These scholarships will make it possible for the students selected to become stronger leaders and contribute to the building of their own communities.”
