Claro and Samsung Electronics announced the arrival of the highly anticipated Galaxy S5 smartphone and accompanying Gear accessories, which the carrier is adding to its lineup before other local wireless competitors.
To mark the occasion, the companies will host a so-called “Blue Carpet” event at its customer service center in Plaza Las Américas today, during which customers who pre-ordered the phone through the carrier’s website will be able to buy the device starting at 9 a.m.
The Samsung Galaxy S5 will be available for free through Claro’s plan offering unlimited voice, text and multimedia messaging, roaming, long distance and 10GB of mobile broadband. The Gear, Gear Fit and Gear 2 Neo wrist accessories will be available for $199.99. With the purchase of any of the S5 accessories, clients will receive a $50 discount, Claro said.
The devices are expected to be available in Plaza Las Américas first, and then at all Claro stores and kiosks by Thursday or Friday, the company said.
