Skål International Puerto Rico convenes in Dorado

Some 56 travel and tourism professionals, members and guests of Skål International Puerto Rico recently met at Dorado Beach, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve, when they welcomed Tom White, president of the Skål International USA, among several high-ranking industry representatives.

White, who is also currently secretary-treasurer of the Orlando, Florida Skål club, has been an active member for 23 years.

“I have had the opportunity to visit Puerto Rico several times in the last few years and am always impressed by the enthusiasm and camaraderie of the members,” he said. “It is a very close-knit professional group of people who have a strong feeling about Skål and are actively involved.”

Skål International Puerto Rico, Club 183, was founded in April 1959. Fifty-four tourism professionals have presided the group and nearly every major player on the island for more than a half-century has been a member, the organization said.

Skål in Puerto Rico seeks to support tourism through international friendship and peace and “Doing Business Among Friends.” The club meets on the second Tuesday of every month, 11 times a year, and has additional special meetings from time to time, the organization further explained.

The event included meetings in the luxury hotel’s Livingston Library with White and Skål International Puerto Rico President Robert Rodríguez, CEO First Class Destination Solutions, Past President Ronald Flores, Editor of ¡Qué Pasa!, and Associate Treasurer Iván Puig, dean of the International School of Hospitality & Culinary Arts at Universidad del Este.

The agenda included the planning of a Young Skål Club in Puerto Rico and a possible bid for the island to host a 2015 North America/SIUSA Congress.

Skål International has a total of 450 clubs and 20,000 members throughout 85 nations and regions. Skål is the only international organization that brings together all branches of the travel and tourism industry.
