Total passenger traffic at LMM airport up 16% in March
Puerto Rico saw domestic traffic grow by 14.9% and international traffic by 27.1% year-over-year.
Grupo Aeroportuario del Sureste, (ASUR), which operates Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (SJU), reported a 16% year-over-year increase in passenger traffic at Puerto Rico’s primary air hub in March.
The month’s passenger volume hit about 1,160,000 passengers, up from slightly more than 1 million in March 2023, according to the Mexico-based company.
The year-over-year growth was recorded in both domestic and international traffic, at 14.9% and 27.1%, respectively. The totals show that more than 1 million domestic and approximately 120,000 international travelers used the airport in March 2024, compared to 909,289 and 94,416 in the corresponding categories for March 2023.
ASUR said the variation in traffic is partly attributed to the timing of Holy Week, which occurred in April 2023 and in March 2024.
For the first quarter of 2024, passenger traffic surpassed 3.2 million, marking a 12.2% increase from the 2.9 million reported during the same timeframe in 2023. This year’s figure consists of nearly 2.9 million domestic and 325,956 international passengers, ASUR’s data show.
