Puerto Rico residents will get the chance to save some money on back-to-school purchases during a tax-free weekend July 13-15, Treasury Secretary Jesús F. Méndez said.

By law, the Treasury Department is required to establish an annual three-day tax-free period during the month of July when certain items purchased for the school year are exempted from the Sales and Use Tax.

Among the articles included are: clothing; computers; tablet computers; school items; and college and school textbooks.

“Every year, the consumer anticipates this tax-free period to make their back-to-school purchases, so we hope to benefit them by providing savings, as well as generate economic movement, as hundreds of businesses experience an increase in sales during this period,” Méndez said.
