W Retreat, Copamarina resorts nab TripAdvisor honors

The Copamarina Resort in Guánica was one of a pair of local hotels to get good reviews from TripAdvisor.

The W Retreat & Spa – Vieques Island and the Copamarina Beach Resort & Spa in Guánica were the recent recipients of “Certificate of Excellence” awards from renown travel site TripAdvisor, the hotels announced separately.

The W Retreat, the only W Hotel in the Caribbean, received the accolade, which honors hospitality excellence and is given only to establishments that consistently achieve outstanding traveler reviews on TripAdvisor. Approximately 10 percent of accommodations listed on TripAdvisor receive this prestigious award.

To qualify for the Certificate of Excellence, businesses must maintain an overall rating of four or higher, out of a possible five, as reviewed by travelers on TripAdvisor. Additional criteria include the volume of reviews received within the last 12 months.

The Copamarina resort in Guánica garnered five out of five points in its review, said hotel General Manager Rabin Ortiz. Aside from landing the TripAdvisor distinction, the Copamarina property has also gotten a 3.5-star rating from AAA, which has granted it three diamonds for quality and service.

At present, the sprawling beachfront resort is 17 on the list of 170 Puerto Rico hotels TripAdvisor includes in its review system.

“It’s a great honor for us to receive this rating by our guests and visitors, which in turn recognizes the effort and dedication that each of our employees gives them during their stay,” Rabin said.
