In a letter to Gov. Ricardo Rosselló and the Chairman of the Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico, two Congressional lawmakers called for the protection of the Puerto Rico Energy Commission from efforts to weaken or undermine its jurisdiction by consolidating it with other agencies or by privatizing the Puerto Rico Electric Power Authority and exempting PREPA from PREC’s supervision.
Six months after Hurricane María made landfall, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers “remains committed to safely and urgently restoring reliable power and returning normalcy to the U.S. citizens of Puerto Rico as quickly as possible,” the agency said on the half anniversary of the storm.
Representatives from Puerto Rico’s retail sector confirmed activity is near normalcy six months after Hurricane María generated product shortages and problems at the ports during the first few weeks after the storm.
