The U.S. Department of Agriculture kicked off Monday “National Homeownership Month,” highlighting its role in helping people buy homes in rural areas across the U.S. mainland and Puerto Rico.
After months of negotiation, U.S. House Republicans introduced a bill that would help Puerto Rico deal with its $69 billion debt that has crippled its economy, setting rules that would allow it to seek bankruptcy protection.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Thursday several measures to strengthen rural opportunity in Puerto Rico, including designating the Eastern Region as a federal “Promise Zone.”
