Maritza Abadía, president of Banesco USA in Puerto Rico, was honored with the Banker of the Year Zenit Award by the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce at its recent convention, recognizing her role in the bank’s expansion and contributions to the island’s economic development.

Abadía has led Banesco USA’s Puerto Rico operations for the past 12 years. She is credited with guiding the bank’s strategic growth into new business segments while maintaining high customer satisfaction. Under her leadership, the bank has grown its presence in the island’s commercial banking sector.

With more than 30 years of experience in the financial industry, Abadía is the only woman currently heading a bank in Puerto Rico.

“We’re fortunate to have a professional of the caliber of Maritza Abadía, who has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and an unwavering commitment to her team, the bank’s clients and the economic development of the island,” said Banesco USA President and CEO Calixto García-Vélez.

“I’m grateful to the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce for this recognition, which I accept with great humility but with the satisfaction of being part of an industry that has a direct impact on the socioeconomic development of Puerto Rico,” Abadía said.

“Banesco USA maintains a strong commitment to strengthening the business and professional sectors and takes pride in being their financial partner,” she added.
