Bonchon to enter Puerto Rico market in 2026
Bonchon, the Korean fried-chicken chain with nearly 500 restaurants worldwide, is planning a six-unit expansion into Puerto Rico, with the first location expected to open in late 2026.
The agreement marks the brand’s formal entry into the island as demand for Korean cuisine grows globally, company officials said.
“We’re thrilled to expand into a new market with strong demand for Korean cuisine and a trusted, experienced partner,” said Suzie Tsai, Bonchon’s CEO.
She said the company’s franchise program is designed to provide partners with operational support as the brand scales.
Franchise rights for Puerto Rico were awarded to restaurateur Erick Muro, who first encountered the brand through his teenage daughter’s interest on social media. He later visited multiple locations in the mainland United States.
“Watching my daughter become a fan and seeing my whole family embrace it made me realize how naturally Bonchon connects with people,” Muro said. “I believe Bonchon will resonate deeply with Puerto Rican culture and taste as it has the hearts of countries around the world.”
Planned locations will feature the company’s newest design prototype, introduced this year, with a contemporary Korean-inspired layout and a kitchen optimized for dine-in, takeout and delivery.
Bonchon continues expanding across U.S. markets, including Chicago, Kansas City, Omaha and San Antonio, while growing internationally. The chain has more than 150 restaurants in the United States.
