Casino del Mar at La Concha Resort marked its 17th anniversary by unveiling a $9.7 million renovation that modernizes its gaming floor and expands entertainment offerings.

Executives said the investment is part of a long-term strategy to strengthen Puerto Rico’s tourism and entertainment sectors.

“This renovation reflects our vision for the future of Puerto Rico and our conviction in the growth potential of the entertainment, hospitality and gaming sectors,” said Rolando Paulson, president of Paulson Puerto Rico. “We’re fully committed to creating world-class experiences that continue to expand our island’s economic opportunities.”

The renovation includes $3.5 million for the sports betting area, $1.5 million for the high-limit gaming room and $250,000 for a redesigned main entrance. Another $200,000 was spent on security and facility upgrades, including restroom improvements and the installation of new screens and televisions.

The project added an entertainment center with a performance stage, introduced specialized tournament machines and invested $3.3 million in additional modernization work across the property.

Casino del Mar also invested $1 million in new slot machine products and opened the BetMGM Sports Lounge at La Concha Resort, which features high-definition screens and updated technology for live sports viewing.

According to executives, the casino receives about 2.4 million visitors a year and has increased its workforce from 145 employees at opening to 216. The casino says internal training and professional development have helped employees move into managerial roles.

The Puerto Rico Gaming Commission’s executive director, Juan Carlos Santaella, noted the industry’s economic contribution, citing annual allocations to the University of Puerto Rico ($100 million), the General Fund ($50 million) and the tourism sector ($65 million).

Casino del Mar continues to report the highest betting volume of any casino in Puerto Rico, officials said.
