The 16th Annual Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Investment Conference, geared toward emphasizing the need for public and private sector partnerships to maximize investment opportunities in the Caribbean tourism industry, is scheduled for April 24-26 at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino in Miramar, organizers said.
In its quest to “decentralize tourism beyond the San Juan metropolitan area,” the Puerto Rico Tourism Company offered details Wednesday of a series of development projects — some already underway, others in the pipeline — for a 16-town region in the mountains with an associated $57 million investment.
Acknowledging that 2011 was a “challenging” year for Puerto Rico’s small inns, Tourism Company Executive Director Mario González-Lafuente called a meeting with industry executives Wednesday to present a proposal to aggressively promote those hotels among travel agents.
