Culturas 1930 brings farm-to-table dining to San Juan

Culturas 1930, a new restaurant in San Juan, has opened with a focus on farm-to-table dining and Puerto Rico’s agricultural roots. The concept blends sustainability, freshness and culinary diversity in a refined setting meant to highlight the island’s flavors and traditions.

Led by chef Emanuel Oliveras, the restaurant’s menu features dishes made with seasonal ingredients sourced from Puerto Rican farmers and fisherfolk. Its stated mission is to deliver “authenticity, quality and environmental responsibility” while keeping prices within reach.

“At Culturas 1930, we want to provide guests with a complete gastronomic experience — from the farm to the table — combining culinary excellence with craft cocktails, premium cigars and entertainment in an elegant and welcoming setting,” said restaurant manager Regina M. Florán.

The name, she explained, pays homage to 1930, a year regarded as part of Puerto Rico’s agricultural golden age, when locally grown tobacco briefly surpassed sugar and coffee as the island’s top export.

The restaurant includes a cocktail bar and a terrace dedicated to premium cigars in partnership with Entre Humos, a fine-cigar company. The team describes the venue as an intersection of gastronomy, mixology and cigar culture.

The menu draws from Mediterranean, Asian and Latin influences, offering dishes such as black fideuá with shrimp and calamari, roasted chicken in green mole, fish tikka with makhani sauce, Iberian pork with tamarind glaze and beef strip with truffle butter. Desserts include guava cake with cheese sorbet and bread pudding made with pan de mallorca and Ron del Barrilito.

Signature cocktails include Cafetal Tostado, made with Ron del Barrilito, espresso and chocolate bitters, and Espuma de Sal, a tequila-based drink topped with spiced sea-salt foam. The restaurant also serves a curated selection of wines and local and imported beers.

Oliveras, a Bayamón native, brings more than 20 years of experience from kitchens including Le Bernardin in New York and the Condado Vanderbilt Hotel. Florán, who manages operations, has more than a decade of experience in luxury dining in Puerto Rico and Hawaii.

Culturas 1930 uses biodegradable packaging and sources materials locally to support sustainability and the island’s economy.

The restaurant is located at 16 Calle Chapultepec in the Park Garden Shopping Center, Trujillo Alto.
