Cybersecurity: The unsung hero behind Puerto Rico’s biggest events

Puerto Rico is experiencing a vibrant year for entertainment, and few events capture this energy better than the highly anticipated concert residency of urban music superstar Bad Bunny.
Thousands of fans will pack the Coliseo de Puerto Rico night after night to sing, dance and share every moment of the show on social media. But behind the excitement, the music and the emotion, there’s an unsung hero working backstage to ensure everything runs smoothly: cybersecurity.
Today, large-scale events are hybrid experiences where technology plays a role in every interaction — from purchasing tickets online and scanning digital entries to making mobile payments inside the venue, such as at the Puerto Rico Convention Center, now operating under a fully cashless model — and, of course, the constant stream of social media posts. However, all this connectivity also opens the door to cyber risks.
At Fortinet, we know cybercriminals exploit moments of high emotion and large crowds to launch attacks. Events like Bad Bunny’s residency often trigger spikes in phishing attempts, fake ticketing websites, malware and data theft. Just one fraudulent email or bogus site can compromise an attendee’s personal or financial information. Public Wi-Fi networks at events are particularly tempting targets, exposing users’ sensitive data.
That’s why it is essential for event organizers to implement strong cybersecurity measures to ensure these experiences are safe and seamless, such as:
Next-generation firewalls: capable of real-time traffic inspection and blocking sophisticated threats, even on networks with thousands of users.
Intrusion detection and prevention systems (IDS/IPS): which monitor network activity and respond instantly to suspicious behavior.
Content filtering and application control: preventing access to malicious sites or apps.
Network antivirus: scanning suspicious files and stopping malware from spreading across connected devices.
In addition, attendees themselves should take precautions: Avoid connecting to unknown networks, don’t share passwords and think twice before clicking links or ads related to the event.
Iconic events like Bad Bunny’s residency, the Puerto Rico Open golf tournament, or festivals like the National Salsa Day highlight how excitement and technology are increasingly intertwined — and how investing in cybersecurity means protecting digital assets and preserving the experience, reputation, and trust of the public.
At Fortinet, we work quietly behind the scenes to support Puerto Rico’s major events, safeguarding information and maintaining system integrity so that audiences can focus on enjoying the experience without disruption.
