FirstNet opens first Spanish-language call center in Aguadilla

FirstNet, Built with AT&T, has launched its first Spanish-language call center in Aguadilla, establishing Puerto Rico as a national support hub for Spanish-speaking emergency responders. The facility will provide round-the-clock customer service and technical assistance to public safety personnel across the United States and its territories, creating more than 80 local jobs.
“Public safety cannot wait,” said Gov. Jenniffer González. “With the launch of the first Spanish-language call center for FirstNet in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico becomes a pillar for emergency personnel across the nation.”
She said the new operation reflects FirstNet’s commitment to equity in emergency communications and resiliency.
FirstNet, created after communication failures during the Sept. 11 attacks, is managed through a 25-year public-private partnership with AT&T. The dedicated network has served Puerto Rico since 2018, providing service to first responders and extended public safety agencies.
The new call center is part of a broader effort to strengthen emergency communications infrastructure on the island. Puerto Rico recently activated two portable broadband towers purchased with federal funds. These autonomous units can operate during emergencies when fixed infrastructure fails.
“This initiative not only improves service but also drives economic development through job creation on the island,” said Public Safety Secretary Arturo Garffer.
The government of Puerto Rico is working with FirstNet to access a $8.6 billion reinvestment over the next decade, which will fund new sites, expand 5G coverage, improve interoperability and modernize deployable equipment.
“For public safety, seconds can save lives,” said Scott Agnew, president of FirstNet at AT&T. “Now with Puerto Rico-based support, Spanish-speaking first responders can have peace of mind that FirstNet is truly built with and for them.”
