Genera PR and the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez have signed a one-year agreement to promote teaching, research and community engagement in shared areas of interest.

The Academic, Scientific and Community Collaboration Agreement outlines joint efforts including internships, scholarships, research projects, training, job fair participation and technical visits. It also includes support for community engagement through campus organizations.

“This agreement reflects our commitment to Puerto Rico’s future,” said Iván Báez, vice president of public and government affairs at Genera PR. “We believe in local talent and the importance of creating opportunities that enhance their development and help retain that talent on the island.”

Genera PR, which operates Puerto Rico’s fleet of legacy power plants, said the partnership is aimed at preparing future leaders in the energy sector, with an emphasis on sustainability and local capacity building.

Agustín Rullán-Toro, chancellor of UPR-Mayagüez, highlighted the agreement’s value to both students and faculty. He said the partnership will enrich the academic experience and better equip the university community to support the island’s progress.
