Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico marks 10 years with expanded operations

Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico is celebrating its 10th anniversary, reaching a milestone of more than 450 employees and expanding its operations with a second site at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan.
The aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider launched in 2015 at Rafael Hernández Airport in Aguadilla and has since serviced more than 750 commercial aircraft. Its customer base now includes more than 10 international airlines, including Frontier, JetBlue, Spirit, Allegiant, LATAM and VIVA.
“This anniversary is both a celebration of our achievements and a reaffirmation of our commitment to Puerto Rico, our employees and our customers,” said Joerg Speri, chief executive of Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico.
In November 2024, the company began offering line maintenance services at the San Juan airport, with American Airlines as its first client at the new site. The expansion marks a strategic step in strengthening Puerto Rico’s presence in the regional MRO sector.
So far in 2025, the company has hired more than 70 new employees. Puerto Ricans make up most of the workforce, which now includes professionals from more than 10 nationalities.
“Puerto Rico has been our first step into the aircraft maintenance market in the Americas, and we remain committed to supporting its development,” said Marcus Motschenbacher, chief operating officer of Lufthansa Technik’s Aircraft Maintenance Services.
