Popular Inc. reaffirms support for Puerto Rico Museum of Art

As the Puerto Rico Museum of Art (MAPR, in Spanish) celebrates its 25th anniversary, Popular Inc. has reaffirmed its role as the main sponsor of the Raúl Juliá Theater-Banco Popular, underscoring its long-standing support for the island’s cultural development.
Named after Puerto Rican actor Raúl Juliá, the 400-seat theater recently underwent a renovation that included new seating, updated carpeting and a state-of-the-art audiovisual system. The upgrades strengthen its role as a venue for performances, conferences and cultural activities.
The project added high-efficiency LED lighting for chromatic versatility, digital sound for precise acoustics and high-definition projection to expand multimedia capacity. Accessibility features were incorporated throughout the space, which also highlights Puerto Rican artistry, including the “Mundillo Nuestro” curtain by Antonio Martorell and artisans, and the “Horizonte” mural by Carmelo Sobrino.
“The Puerto Rico Museum of Art does a great job fostering the exchange of ideas through art. Popular has always supported institutions that protect, celebrate and educate about our culture,” said Javier D. Ferrer, CEO of Popular Inc. “We’re proud to contribute to ensuring that spaces like the Raúl Juliá Theater continue to bring our identity to life.”
MAPR Executive Director Dr. María Cristina Gaztambide said the sponsorship reflects the values both organizations share.
“This sponsorship reaffirms a strong partnership that will allow us to continue fulfilling our mission of making art accessible to all and inspiring present and future generations,” she said.
