Popular unveils mural at ‘Choliseo’ as part of brand modernization effort

Banco Popular’s mural at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico complements the bank’s brand modernization launched in 2024, officials said.

Banco Popular has unveiled a large-scale mural at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot — known as the Choliseo — as part of an initiative to highlight youth talent and the bank’s evolving brand identity.

The project is part of “Choli Walls,” a visual arts series launched by the venue to enhance the audience experience. Banco Popular commissioned 23-year-old muralist Andrés Cortés to design the piece, which now decorates one of the arena’s main entrances.

Cortés, who has painted murals in Paris, Costa Rica and New York, used virtual modeling to adapt his design to the 40-foot surface. His composition features his signature circular patterns alongside Popular’s updated brand imagery.

“This initiative reaffirms our commitment to the development of young artists and to future generations,” said Eduardo Negrón, executive vice president and head of administration at Banco Popular. “Cortés’s work shines by intertwining his unique style with Popular’s colors and designs in a composition that celebrates creativity.”

The mural complements a broader brand transformation at Popular, which began last year and includes new digital elements, updated graphics and a sonic logo composed by Puerto Rican musician Tommy Torres.

Bank officials said the collaboration also reflects a long-standing partnership with the Choliseo, Puerto Rico’s largest indoor arena.
