Puerto Rico debuts 1st Uber Campus in LatAm at Sacred Heart University

As part of Uber Campus, Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (Sacred Heart University) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, will feature official Uber signage and a designated pickup and drop-off zone to facilitate student use of the app.

Uber has launched its first Uber Campus in Latin America, selecting Puerto Rico as the pilot site for the program. Universidad del Sagrado Corazón (Sacred Heart University) in Santurce is the first educational institution to join the program, which is designed to improve student mobility and access through the Uber and Uber Eats platforms.

“In university life, being able to move around in a safer and more reliable way is essential,” said Laura Santillán, Uber’s general manager for Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica and Panama. “With Uber Campus, we want to be even more present during that key stage, supporting students so they can continue their studies without mobility being an obstacle.”

The program will provide ride discounts for students selected by the university, with the goal of removing transportation as a barrier to education.

“Our gratitude to Uber for becoming a partner in ensuring that more students can move to and from the campus, and that mobility challenges do not become an obstacle to focusing on their studies,” said university President Gilberto J. Marxuach-Torrós.

In addition to the discounts, Uber Campus will add official signage and establish a designated pick-up and drop-off zone on campus to facilitate app use. The infrastructure is intended to streamline transportation and improve safety for the university community.

Santillán said the launch is “just the beginning of a long-term project” that seeks to expand benefits not only for students but also for professors and staff. The program will explore additional features and partnerships to further integrate transportation services into campus life.

Uber said the university’s participation sets the precedent for expanding Uber Campus to other educational institutions in Latin America. The company described the effort as part of a broader commitment to connecting technology, accessibility and education to reduce logistical challenges for academic communities.
