Salvation Army sets $1M goal for annual Red Kettle drive

Through The Salvation Army’s Golden Age program, older adults take part in workshops and activities that support their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

The Salvation Army has launched its annual Red Kettle campaign with a $1 million fundraising goal, calling on Puerto Ricans to embrace the spirit of generosity during the holiday season.

Now in its 63rd year, the initiative will run from Nov. 14 to Dec. 26, placing the organization’s red kettles in shopping centers, supermarkets and stores across the island.

“Christmas is hope, and every act of kindness makes it a reality,” said Bersabé Vera, divisional commander for The Salvation Army in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. “When you extend your hand, you’re not just offering help, you’re giving peace, joy and the reassurance that no one is alone.”

The funds raised this season will support Salvation Army programs throughout 2026, including youth education and recreation, assistance for older adults, disaster relief, and the distribution of food, clothing and essential items to families in need.

Each contribution, the organization notes, represents “a hot meal, clothing, utility payments or relief for a family” facing hardship.

The nonprofit also provides financial assistance for rent, electricity and water, tailoring services to community needs through social workers and case managers who emphasize dignity, stability and emotional support.

To accompany the fundraising effort, the Salvation Army’s Fortissimo music and arts program will hold performances across the island, including Plaza del Caribe, Plaza Las Américas, Plaza Carolina and Mayagüez Mall.

“Each concert will be an opportunity to share joy, reinforce the message of solidarity, and remind everyone that generosity can also be celebrated through art,” Vera said.

The Salvation Army operates in San Juan, Bayamón, Caguas, Mayagüez, Ponce, Fajardo, Arecibo, Humacao, Loíza, Peñuelas and Guayama.
