Spark by Hilton debuts in Ponce with $5M, 120-room hotel

The Spark hotel in Ponce, Hilton’s first premium economy property to open in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Hilton has officially opened Spark by Hilton Ponce, the first hotel under its premium economy brand to debut in the Caribbean and Latin America.

The $5 million, 120-room property represents a significant addition to the southern region’s lodging inventory, bringing affordable, design-forward accommodations to Puerto Rico’s second-largest city.

Owned by Ponce Resorts Inc. and managed by HI Development P.R. Corp., the hotel is positioned as a contemporary, value-oriented option for leisure and business travelers. Located three miles from Mercedita International Airport and just off Highway 52, the property provides access to Ponce’s historic core, cultural attractions and major shopping areas.

HI Development President Miguel Vega said the Ponce opening aligns with the company’s decades-long involvement in the region.

“The hotel adds diversity to the southern region and confirms our commitment of over 50 years contributing to the tourism development in the city of Ponce and Puerto Rico,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maxime Verstraete, vice president of brand management for Hilton in the Caribbean and Latin America, said the launch marks an important milestone for the company’s regional strategy.

“We’re thrilled to welcome guests to Spark by Hilton Ponce, the first Spark by Hilton in the Caribbean and Latin America,” he said. “The arrival of Spark by Hilton in Ponce introduces a fresh, affordable hospitality experience to the destination, and contributes to the local economy by creating career opportunities and reinforcing our commitment to the tourism in Puerto Rico.”

Hilton first announced plans for the Ponce hotel in July, as News is my Business reported, marking the brand’s initial entry into the region.

The hotel features modern Spanish architecture, a landscaped courtyard, flexible lobby seating designed for work or leisure, and a complimentary hot breakfast. Amenities include free parking, an outdoor swimming pool, a fitness center and more than 1,600 square feet of event space accommodating up to 120 guests.

Alissa Klees, global brand leader for Spark, described the momentum behind the brand’s expansion.

“The Spark by Hilton brand has seen incredible momentum since its launch two years ago,” she said, noting that more than 200 hotels are now open globally.
