WASHINGTON — Puerto Rico’s iconic Arecibo Observatory is looking to raise money and boost its international profile as the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary this October.
The National University College Arecibo campus and the Arecibo Radiotelescope have signed a special agreement designating the latter facility as the new internship center for students enrolled in Telecommunications Electronic Engineering associate degree courses.
Nearly 50 years after it was founded in Arecibo, the world’s foremost single-dish radio telescope facility is the focus of a massive redevelopment project that calls for the construction of a hotel and planetarium to the tune of $50 million, government and facility officials said Tuesday.
