Puerto Rico’s total bankruptcies down 8% in ’12

Puerto Rico’s bankruptcy filings were down 8 percent during the 12-month period that ended in December 2012, when a total of 10,362 petitions were filed at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, according to preliminary statistics offered Wednesday by local research firm Boletín de Puerto Rico.

As the year comes to a close, Puerto Rico’s bankruptcy filings appear to be keeping the downward trend that has prevailed throughout most of 2012. Filings through November were down 8 percent year-over-year, with 9,532 cases on record at the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
