The Center for Investigative Journalism (CPI, as it is known in Spanish) on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against the director of the Puerto Rico Demographic Registry, Wanda Llovet-Díaz, after multiple attempts to get the agency she heads to offer information about the deaths that occurred on the island after Hurricane María.
The Center for Investigative Journalism (CIJ) filed at the U.S. District Court for Puerto Rico a lawsuit against the Financial Oversight and Management Board protected by the Constitution and the laws of Puerto Rico, which recognize access to information as a fundamental human and constitutional right.
Regardless of their size, the number of residents, or the fiscal problems they have, U.S. cities under fiscal control boards have faced a formula that consists primarily of the firing of public employees, pension cuts, an increase in the cost of college education, and a reduction in essential services, such as health.
