Maritime shipping company Crowley recently added its name to a long list of private-sector companies that have thrown their support behind HR 870, known as the Puerto Rico Chapter 9 Uniformity Act of 2015, which seeks to extend bankruptcy protection to the island’s public instrumentalities.
Crowley Puerto Rico Services, Inc. announced Monday it “has further solidified its commitment to Puerto Rico” with the execution of a $48.5 million construction contract for a new pier at its Isla Grande Terminal in San Juan, along with a 30-year lease extension for the property with the Puerto Rico Ports Authority.
Just as Puerto Rico businesses are starting to feel the pinch of a slowdown in merchandise imports in the wake of Horizon Lines’ exit from the market, maritime shipper Crowley announced Thursday the addition of a new flat-deck barge capable of carrying up to 400 loads.
