The Corporation for the Supervision and Insurance of Puerto Rico Cooperatives, known as COSSEC in Spanish, is moving forward in striking up talks with Cuban counterparts, to ultimately set off diplomatic relations between both islands, and other Caribbean jurisdictions.
WASHINGTON — First, the good news: if you’re a U.S. citizen who’s already licensed to travel to Cuba, you may now come back to the United States with $400 worth of Cuban goods, including $100 in duty-free rum and cigars.
The White House’s announcement Wednesday of charting a “new course” in its relations with Cuba drew immediate response from decision- and opinion-makers in Puerto Rico, which agreed for the most part that pulling the neighboring island country out of its isolated state will present challenges and opportunities in years to come.
