Prof. Nelson Cardona, of the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez nabbed the “Educator of the Year, Higher Ed” award from the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, which through its STAR Awards seeks to recognize key contributors in the Hispanic community in the fields of science, technology, math and engineering (STEM).
A trio of students from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez were awarded third place in the Texas Instruments Incorporated sixth annual “Analog Design Contest Engibous Prize,” an analog design award that showcases the imaginative spirit and inner competitive streak of today's aspiring innovators, the company announced Tuesday.
The National Science Foundation, through the Small Business Innovation Research, approved a $150,000 grant to Mayagüez start-up Cutting Edge Superconductors Inc., plus another $100,000 from the Puerto Rico Science, Research and Technology Trust, which it will use to launch the first phase of its research this month.
