The Community Investment Fund, launched last November with an initial $500,000 contribution from its founder, the Puerto Rico Community Foundation, has more than doubled its capital base to $1.1 million in investments from the private sector, the nonprofit announced Thursday.
Puerto Rico’s nonprofit organizations have a positive economic impact on the island, producing 150,410 jobs — or 16 percent of all local employment — and some $2.2 billion in wages, according to a study presented Wednesday by the Foundations Network.
Fulfilling its social responsibility goals, Banco Popular recently became the first bank to invest in the Community Investment Fund run by the Puerto Rico Community Foundation, investing $250,000.
