For years, Puerto Rico has had a long-standing reputation for being a mecca for manufacturing and production for major companies who flock to this Caribbean island in search of talented workers and tax benefits.
The Universidad Central del Caribe was recently selected to receive a grant from the National Institute of Health for its Specialized Neuroscience Research Program of $1.4 million for each of the next three years, with the possibility of extending the financial assistance to five years, the school announced this week.
The National Science Foundation, through the Small Business Innovation Research, approved a $150,000 grant to Mayagüez start-up Cutting Edge Superconductors Inc., plus another $100,000 from the Puerto Rico Science, Research and Technology Trust, which it will use to launch the first phase of its research this month.
