The historic La Mallorquina restaurant in Old San Juan quietly shuttered its doors earlier this week, becoming the latest victim of a depressed economy that has brought down many historic eateries in the last five years.

The management of the Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve — an ultra-luxury hotel property slated to open December 2012 — announced Friday a partnership agreement with award-winning Chef José Andrés to open his first restaurant outside the U.S. mainland at the property. The related investment was not revealed.
