Payroll, food and electricity represent the three major expenses for Puerto Rico restaurants, which are feeling the crunch of rising costs all-around, Restaurant Association President Carlos Morell said Tuesday during a public hearing at the Senate.
The Puerto Rico Restaurant Association raised a red flag Thursday against the decision by the Aqueduct and Sewer and Authority’s examiner to enact an Environmental and Regulatory Compliance fee based on consumption for customers whose meters are less than 2 inches in diameter, and a flat rate for those with larger meters.
The owners of the Taco Maker chain in Puerto Rico are setting their sights on other markets on the U.S. mainland and in Central and Latin America to fuel growth in 2014, when the company also plans to expand on a newly introduced modular restaurant concept they believe is the cornerstone to successfully bucking local economic conditions.
