Puerto Rico’s Resident Commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón announced Tuesday awards adding up to more than $4.7 million for research on cerebral cancer at Caribbean Central University and for two research projects on evolutionary biology at the University of Puerto Rico.
Some 54 students from the University of Puerto Rico system received the El Mesón Sandwiches Scholarship, awarded by the Puerto Rican food chain to support university students with limited financial resources and high academic achievement.
The Financial Oversight and Management Board for Puerto Rico meet Wednesday with student representatives of the University of Puerto Rico’s 11 regional campuses, in addition to the Plastic Arts and Design Schools and the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music, to discuss the public university system’s fiscal situation.
