The U.S. Virgin Islands on Tuesday became the first U.S. territory to “opt-in” to the FirstNet network, following Gov. Kenneth Mapp’s decision to accept the FirstNet and AT&T plan to deliver a wireless broadband network to the territory’s public safety community, helping first responders save lives and protect communities, the carrier announced.
Wireless carrier AT&T has invested nearly $20 million in its U.S. Virgin Islands wireless and wired networks during 2014-2016, the company confirmed over the weekend.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection recently held an event at the Cyril E. King Airport to gather local feedback to incorporate the U.S. Virgin Islands into the Automated Commercial Environment, to expedite the importation process.
