Uber launches ‘Alert Zones’ to enhance driver safety
Uber has introduced a new safety feature in Puerto Rico designed to give its driver-partners greater control over their trips. The “Alert Zones” tool, now active in San Juan, provides visual warnings to drivers about areas that may require extra caution.
“When a driver receives a trip request with a pickup or drop-off location within an alert zone, an alert icon will appear next to the address,” the company said in a statement. “This launch represents a significant step in our efforts to empower partners with tools that allow them to make better decisions.”
The alert system combines public data, driver reports and trip history to identify these areas. When a location falls within an alert zone, the address appears highlighted in brown with a warning symbol.
Uber said drivers retain full control over whether to accept a ride, and that declining trips in such areas will not affect their acceptance rate.
The company added that “Alert Zones” complements other safety tools already available in Puerto Rico. These include showing the number of trips completed by a passenger before a ride is accepted, allowing video recording through a driver’s phone for encrypted reporting and enabling drivers to block users with consistently low ratings.
